I can’t believe that Betsy Devos’ “weebles wobble” built ass has the audacity to try and turn our schools into Grand Theft Auto: Classroom. Can someone please escort her and her beak off of the premises?
I would not be angry if someone allowed another one of her yachts to drift into the abyss again…because that’s what it seems like she wants to do to us and the children in school. As someone who has teachers in my family, this is even more alarming than the fact that Betsy can’t seem to find her bird-shaped way back to Sesame Street.
For the LONGEST TIME, teachers have been asking for pay that makes sense. They’ve been begging for supplies so that they don’t have to purchase them from their already lacking pockets. They want to see lunches so that their students don’t have to endure a school day while hungry. Honestly, who would ever have the mental space to learn when their stomach is empty? Why should schools have to shut down statewide (during strikes) for the government to pay attention to the fact that teachers simply want the tools to be able to do their jobs well?
It seems like pulling teeth to get funding for textbooks that were published within the last two years but money was quickly found when it was time to talk about arming teachers. How does that work?
Even policemen (who are trained with guns) have difficulty handling all the variables in a firefight and now you want to put more guns out there? Can you imagine trying to de-escalate a situation and then suddenly there are three untrained teachers trying to be Batman? Now you have to immediately decide who’s the shooter and who’s trying to defend the students. In these situations, hesitation can kill and friendly fire is obviously just as devastating.
What do you think people might do with the information when they see that there are guns in classrooms? What happens if a student feels especially murderous one day? What happens if a teacher decides to use the weapon against kids or staff? Do you all even think about the far-reaching implications of legislation before you shit it out on us?
We all know that we can’t prevent violence and killing 100% of the time. But I think that we should create policies that won’t worsen a situation that is already horrendous. Common sense gun laws, plugging stupid loopholes, and (most importantly) trying to fix the deep-rooted, violent tendencies that many (white) men seem to have are the most substantive ways that we can fix this problem.
What do you think? Watch my video on the subject here:
